Goroda. Gastronomic Stories

Task

The building that houses the restaurant Goroda. Gastronomic Stories carries a long history tied to the life of the town, and that history set the direction for the whole interior.

Our main task was a new conceptual space able to attract a wide range of guests: a restaurant that works for a family lunch, a business meeting and an evening out alike.

The interior had to carry the idea of the name — cities and the stories that come from them — without turning into decoration for its own sake.

There is an endless number of cities most of us have never heard of. From that came the idea of building an image of a journey: every zone of the restaurant tells its own story, and together they make one route through the space.

Solution

The plan is worked out so the space stays as functional and flexible as possible. The restaurant is divided into zones that can work together on a busy evening or separately for a private event.

Guest and service routes are kept apart, so the room stays calm however full it is.

The name gave the design concept its starting point and produced an interior that could not be repeated anywhere else.

The solid timber tabletops deserve particular attention: each is engraved with the map of a Russian city, so every table carries its own place.

What we did

One of the key stages of our work is the preliminary cost estimate, which lets us find places to optimise the budget at the earliest stage.

Working this way keeps the process under control and lets us react quickly to the market without losing the look or the function of the project.
